Hey. Matthew here.
Mom got a letter in the mail today. She read it, then handed it to me without saying anything.
It said Fancy Islands is closing.
“Indefinitely.” That’s the word they used.
No more rides. No more tickets. No more music.
I didn’t even get to go back one last time.
I thought I would see the big gate again.
I thought I’d ride the dragon coaster again.
I thought I’d see the lights.
I asked Mom if she knew why. She just said,
"Sometimes things just stop."
But I don’t believe that.
You can’t just stop being fun.
You can’t just stop existing.
Something happened there. I know it.
The weird dreams, the glitches, the spoon, the sticker, the boy in the dream...
They all started after I went.
They all started after I met Mimi.
I haven’t seen her in days.
Nobody at school has.
Someone said she moved. Someone else said she never existed.
That’s not true.
I remember her smile.
And I remember Fancy Islands.
Even if nobody else does.
