hello! I am Matthew!

Today was kind of normal. I woke up at 7:10 because I forgot to set my alarm last night, but Mom still came to wake me up anyway. She made toast and eggs for breakfast, and I spilled orange juice on my shirt, so I had to change. I was mad about that, because it was my dinosaur shirt and now it has to go in the wash.

At school, we had math in the morning. Mrs. Anderson gave us a worksheet with fractions, which I don’t like. I got confused on one of them and Caleb helped me, but the teacher said we weren’t supposed to work together. I said sorry but I don’t think she was really mad. I got most of them right anyway.

Recess was fun. Brian brought his yo-yo and showed us this trick called "the sleeper" where it just stays spinning. I tried but mine just falls straight down. Then we played tag and I tripped and scraped my hand a little, but it didn’t bleed much. The nurse gave me a cool bandaid with aliens on it. I told her aliens aren’t real and she said, “Are you sure?” and winked. I think she was joking. I think.

After lunch we did reading time. I got to read this book about a boy who finds a dragon egg in the forest. I want to find a dragon egg too. I asked Dad once if dragons were ever real and he said no, but I’m not so sure. If dinosaurs were real, maybe dragons were just dinosaurs that breathed fire.

When I got home, Mom let me play video games for 30 minutes. I played that racing game where you can throw stuff at the other cars. I kept missing the red shells though. Then I drew a picture of the dragon from the book. It had big black wings and red eyes. I showed it to Mom and she said it was really good. She put it on the fridge!

Later, I helped set the table. Dad was late again. He always works late on Tuesdays. Mom said he’s busy because of something called "end of quarter." I don’t really know what that means. When he got home, he was really tired, but he smiled and asked if I wanted to play checkers. I said yes, but he fell asleep on the couch after dinner. Maybe tomorrow.

Now it’s bedtime. I’m kind of tired too. I hope we don’t have more fractions tomorrow. I want to read the dragon book again. I hope the boy gets to ride it this time.

Goodnight, diary.
